Stack, Stick, Stuck

The snow has arrived and driving is getting pretty slippery. The yearly debate has returned...chains vs. studs. Although Angoon doesn't have too many roads that are steep, there is always the downhill right turn on to Front St. that can get precarious. The snow is nice enough to cover all evidence of spinning, slipping and sliding if you just give it time. Snow is so beautiful and danger at the same time. This time of year, when the snow is still new and isn't too deep, everyone loves to kick it around; however, the longer it lasts the fewer people you see over the age of 20 enjoying the winter wonderland.

Guess Who's Back?

Back again. The LeConte's back. Tell a friend.

Yes, it's true the ferry is up and running again after its scheduled yearly maintenance. Its time in the maintenance yard seems to increase even though it typically averages a month and a half in dry dock.
And while the catamaran offers transportation to and from Angoon, it's not very village friendly since passengers are limited as to how much they load on and no vehicles are allowed which translates, for those who don't have access to a vehicle in Juneau, into relying on the hotel van, the bus and taxis.
Then just as people start to get anxious about going into town, the Alaska Marine Highway gets the LeConte to the ferry terminal as scheduled and the Thursday-Saturday schedule returns.
Thanks LeConte for returning to Angoon and sorry for the Eminem spoof earlier I just couldn't help myself.
