HMMM

How do we drive viewers to this blog? It seems the only ways it can be accessed is by randomly scrolling through an unalphabetized list of blogs or inviting all of your family and friends. Neither is really that appealing

The Weather Report

While it warmed up a bit, the heat has subsided, at least for the next few days.

4th of July will be hot and sunny, no better way to spend it.

The Run

Sockeye are here.
Boats, nets and families all out on the water.
Puffs of smoke rises from the smokehouse.
The waiting, the testing the jarring.
Smoked strips will soon follow.

With the thrill of the derby over, people have settled back into their routine of catching fish and talking about it at the store where there is never a shortage for a good fish tale.

The Winning Fish

All I want to know is how did she catch such a monster?

And with Allie growing up in a fishing family is sure to beat her auntie's winning fish one day.

Having only the pleasure of catching some smaller salmon, I can only image the thrill to reel a salmon that size. Just the adrenaline when you first get close to the boat, the diving, the pulling and eventually the flapping as you finally pull it out of the water.

What a magnificent feeling. Way to go Marsha. Thanks for showing the men that a woman could take first.

What A Day

The cook-out was a hit. People who didn't even sign up for this year's derby came and got some food. The grill was going from 11-5. Not to mention 5 more fish were turned in too.

Derby winners will be announced this week!

Cook-Out...Yum-Yum

The derby may be over tomorrow, but that doesn't mean the fun has to end. All derby participants who kept their derby ticket get a free hamburger or hot dog meal starting at 11 am. Anyone else is welcome to a plate of a mere $3/$6 for a hot dog/hamburger plate (chips and drink included). Not a bad meal to go since someone else will be doing the cooking.

This year there were over 100 entrants meaning just about 50% of the community participated in this year's event.

Marsha was really sweating it for a bit when Gunner brought in his fish today (2 one of the derby). Lucky for her, he missed it by this much. There's still tomorrow's fish to contend with though.

Cook-Out
When: Sat., June 13
Where: Angoon Trading
Hours: 11:00 till the food runs out or closing time (whichever comes first).

Wrapping up the derby

With only a few days left the fish are starting to come in. Some of our recurring winners from previous years haven't even made it on the board yet. Just goes to show that fish only strike when they feel like it.

More info regarding the cook-out this weekend.

Another bueatiful day in Angoon

The water is great. The weather can't be beat. The boats are in the starit.
Now to send some hungry fish vibes.

4th Annual King Salmon Derby Is Rounding Home

The fish are not as hungry this year they were last year, but they are just as big. So far the leading fish weighed 41.5 pounds. I wish I could've been there to see Marsha reel it in.
The days have been sunny and hot. Well at least by Alaskan standards. It's been in the high 60s-mid 70s. If your from down south that is considered to be optimal conditions, but here, it's just plain hot. However taking into consideration last year's rainy, cold excuse for summer, everyone is enjoying the heat for a change.
The water has been nice. It laid down for a couple of days during the derby. Makes for a nice time on the water. Even so it never got worse than a little chop. Which also makes for good fishing providing you have the right boat.
Hope some more fish are caught soon. We've got loads of prizes to give away.
